Tri New Zealand has announced the latest stop in its quest to find the next generation of Olympic Games triathletes.

The national governing body is to host a five day talent identification and skill building camp at Mitre 10 Park Hawke’s Bay from February 18-22.

Pegged to Tri NZ’s big race of the summer – World Triathlon Cup Napier on February 23 – the camp is open to 14 to 19 year olds and will focus on skill development and team dynamics.

Participants will be encouraged to race the final round of the Tri NZ Junior Series, part of the wider World Cup/Napier Triathlon Festival on February 23. In addition, the camp will also include a super sprint race on closed roads around Mitre 10 Park Hawke’s Bay on February 21.

The camp is initially open to 28 athletes on ‘first come first served’ basis. The cost of $400 covers accommodation at the Sports Lodge attached to the park, full catering and access at the facilities’ pool, athletics track and gym, in addition to coaching from Tri NZ staff.

Athletes can claim their spot at the camp by emailing Triathlon NZ Junior Development Lead Chris Willett at development@triathlon.kiwi.

Enter ‘Napier Junior Camp’ in the subject field and state the name, age, home location and coach (if applicable) of the athlete, plus contact details of a parent or guardian.

A planning document will be released post registration covering full logistics, equipment and dietary requirements etc.

Athletes are encouraged to enter the final Tri NZ Junior Series race at the Napier Triathlon Festival on Sunday, February 23 here.
