Kiwi No.1 Hayden Wilde will lead the Kiwi charge in Napier alongside fellow Paris Olympic hopefuls Tayler Reid, Dylan McCullough and Ainsley Thorpe while rising Canterbury star Brea Roderick will look to kick on from her breakout 2023 campaign on the global circuit.

They’ll face stiff competition from some of the world’s finest swim, bike and run exponents in the opening round of World Triathlon’s globle-trotting second-tier circuit. Given its positioning at the start of an Olympic year and just a month before the global MR qualification window for the ’24 Paris Games closes, the weekend is expected to deliver intense competition as individuals and nations look to press their Games claims.

Tri NZ CEO Pete De Wet is thrilled to ink the deal with TVNZ+. The opportunity to showcase the sport, especially for those unable to spectate or race themselves in Napier at the incorporated NZ Age Group Sprint Championships, is an invaluable chance to reach new audiences, De Wet said.

Anyone interested in racing the NZ Age Group Sprint Championships, a Tri NZ Suzuki Series event open to newcomers to the sport as well as seasoned triathletes, can find more information HERE.

“I am delighted to have TVNZ+ take the local broadcast of our premier elite event of the year. It is our mission to be a sport accessible for all, and by having the World Triathlon Cup and Mixed Relay on a free to air platform, all fans of triathlon, and sport in general can watch NZ’s top triathletes taking on some of the best in the world,” De Wet said.

“I hope that we can build on this relationship with TVNZ as we continue to drive triathlon in New Zealand forward.”

TVNZ’s General Manager, Sport and Events, Melodie Robinson said: “Kiwis love free-to-air sport and we’re excited to bring more to TVNZ+ by partnering with Tri NZ for World Triathlon Cup Napier.

“This event gives viewers the opportunity to see competitors from around the world challenge themselves in this triathlon festival. Having the opportunity to watch these exceptional athletes push themselves to the limits might just inspire the next generation of participants in the sport too.”
