Fast, simple, athlete-first insurance for Tri NZ age-groupers to underpin partnership

Auckland (Friday, January 30) – Age group athletes representing New Zealand overseas are set to benefit from faster, simpler and more comprehensive access to cover with Triathlon New Zealand today announcing Howden Insurance as its new insurance provider.

Following a robust request for proposal (RFP) process, Howden Insurance will service all of Tri NZ’s insurance needs across the national governing body’s business, including critical areas such as High Performance and event liability.

A key feature of the partnership with the global insurance group is the development of a new online insurance portal to improve the customer experience for age group athletes. Designed in collaboration with Tri NZ, the portal will allow participants to purchase insurance and instantly access and print their policy documents, reducing complexity and providing peace of mind in the lead-up to international competition.

Tri NZ CEO Pete De Wet said the partnership strengthens the NSO’s commitment to supporting its community with practical, athlete-first solutions, ensuring competitors at every level are backed by trusted partners as they pursue their goals.

“We’re delighted to welcome Howden to the Tri NZ family and feel confident their innovative product and services will support the needs of Tri NZ and our valued community, the latter more seamlessly than ever before,” De Wet said

Tri NZ General Manager of Community, Anna Russell, said the partnership would help take the stress out of prepping to compete overseas, allowing Team NZL age group reps to focus on becoming the best versions of themselves.

“Our age-group athletes are the heart of our community, and for many, representing New Zealand overseas is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Howden really impressed us with their understanding of that journey and their commitment to making the insurance process simple and stress-free,” Russell said.

“The new athlete-focused online portal will allow competitors to purchase their insurance and access their documents instantly, giving them confidence and peace of mind as they prepare to race on the world stage. We’re delighted to welcome Howden to the Tri NZ family.”

James McGhie, Howden’s Head of Commercial & Affinity, said the new partnership is driven by a shared performance ethos and underpinned by a desire to simplify insurance for New Zealanders performing on the world stage.

“Triathlon is a sport built on discipline and determination, and Howden are proud to support Tri NZ with insurance solutions that match that standard,” McGhie said.

“From protecting the organisation to providing travel insurance for athletes competing internationally, our focus is simple: remove uncertainty so athletes can focus on racing, not risk.”
