A sports physiologist who has devoted her career to assisting girls thrive in sport through puberty and beyond will be the guest speaker at a free Women’s Health Forum set to be hosted by Tri NZ on the sidelines of World Triathlon Cup Napier.
Dr. Julia Casadio, a HPSNZ physiologist and applied researcher who has worked with multiple medal-winning Olympians, will share experiences from her own cross-country skiing days where, growing up in Canada, she struggled with performance plateaus and was given misguided advice to “lean up.”
It ultimately led to an eating disorder and an early exit from the sport she loved.
Determined to change the narrative, Casadio created ‘Her Strength’ – a digital platform to equip coaches, parents, and others in youth female sport with the “knowledge and tools to guide young athletes through the complexities of growth and development, enabling them to thrive in their sport.”
Casadio will be joined by New Zealand reps Brea Roderick, Eva Goodisson, Saxon Morgan and HPSNZ Development coach Tess Mattern for a panel discussion at the Feb. 22 forum at East Pier Hotel in Napier. Tri NZ Women’s and Girls lead Tamara Reed will also be in attendance.
The forum, convened with the support of Sport NZ’s Leverage and Legacy fund, is the launchpad for a Women’s Health module that Tri NZ is adding to its digital coaching library through online learning platform SportTutor.
You can register for the free Tri NZ Women’s Health Forum here.
The session will run from 2pm to 3:30pm on Feb.22, the day before World Cup Napier and the Tri NZ Suzuki Series Age Group Sprint Championships.
