I have been participating in triathlon for nearly eight years and coaching for five of them. I’d much rather help someone achieve their triathlon goals than focus on my own. It’s such a thrill for me to help people recognise what they’re capable of. I’m currently spreading my love and enthusiasm for technically efficient swimming around Wellington. Which is difficult given it’s the least favourite discipline of many. I encourage my athletes to use their technical foundation to build strength and speed in all three disciplines.
My coaching focus is getting people into the sport. It’s targeted towards beginner and intermediate level triathletes. I focus on building confidence across all three disciplines and motivate my athletes to achieve their goals.
As coaching is a passion, not a full time job, I take the time to get to know and understand my athletes, their goals and how to achieve them. This allows me to draw up a training programmes that are flexible, achievable and tailored to the individual. I understand the difficulties, and also importance of balancing training with work, family and life. It’s important to me that my athletes enjoy the sport they’re participating in and never forget why they got into it.
If you have the secret goal of always wanting to do a triathlon and the dedication, I can provide you with some tools and we’re sure to achieve your triathlon goals.
