Pete de Wet joining Tri NZ as CEO

Triathlon New Zealand are thrilled to announce the appointment of our new CEO, Pete de Wet. Pete comes from leading the Central Districts Cricket Association and has over 23 years of experience in the sports industry working for leading Federations and Sports Agencies in South Africa, Africa, Europe and New Zealand.

 

He has diverse experience across High Performance, Pathway and Community sports and will bring a strong commercial background, having worked for leading sponsorship agencies in South Africa and Europe.

 

“I am really privileged to be joining the TRINZ family, and working closely with the Board and the Tri Community to continue to build on the strong foundation that exists in the sport,” said de Wet.

 

“Triathlon has such a rich history in New Zealand, and I look forward to working hard to ensure that we continue to develop the Triathlon story into the future. Success will be built on strong relationships, and I am excited to get out and meet all the stakeholders, athletes and Tri community.”

 

Pete has most recently successfully led the CD Cricket Association, to four national domestic cricket titles (2 x Plunket Shield, 1 x Mens SuperSmash, 1 x Hallyburton Johnstone Shield) and steered the organisation and representative Domestic teams through novel challenges created by the Kaikoura earthquake, Christchurch terror attack and COVID-19 pandemic, all of which directly impacted the playing programmes.

 

Triathlon New Zealand Chair Natalie Smith commented the Board are delighted to announce de Wet’s appointment following a comprehensive recruitment process with several excellent candidates. Pete brings a vast amount of sport management experience and a track record of building high-performing teams.

 

“We are looking forward to leveraging Pete’s expertise, not only in propelling Triathlon’s growth and development from the strong base built over the past six years, but also in continuing the sport’s progression on the World Stage and embracing the mixed team relay events.

 

“We were particularly impressed with the work Pete has undertaken during his time at CD Cricket, and we are looking forward to Pete leading our strategic plan as we work towards increasing participation numbers, achieving on the world stage and focusing on the wellbeing of our athletes”.

 

Pete de Wet will be starting his new role on 16th May.
