Triathlon New Zealand are very excited to announce the Triathlon New Zealand Suzuki National Series 2020/21.
This is an exciting new national format, that has been designed in partnership with the community and our event providers to respond to COVID-19 and to ensure our events are as accessible as possible for the upcoming season.
WIN A SUZUKI SWIFT – MORE RACING CLOSER TO YOU – QUALIFY FOR WORLDS – PARTICIPATE IN GREAT EVENTS – BECOME A NORTH ISLAND / SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPION – RACE YOUR MATES – BECOME AN ULTIMATE SERIES CHAMPION – WIN EXCLUSIVE NZ TEAM KIT…This season has it all!
COVID-19 brought with it major changes and uncertainty, including access issues, personal circumstances changes, and travel impacts. The Suzuki National Series aims to combat these issues to ensure our amazing triathletes and people from all around NZ can get back to enjoying our sport and competing!
Delivering North Island and South Island events in multiple distances will provide increased participation opportunities, and more amazing opportunities to qualify for the NZ Age-Group Team, and win great prizes – THANKS TO OUR AMAZING PARTNERS Suzuki NZ, 2XU and Asics.
Due to both ITU World Championships being postponed until 2021, Tri NZ is also pleased to announce that all athletes who qualified for the 2020 events will retain their spots for 2021 so long as they validate their spot by competing in the equivalent race in the upcoming Suzuki National Series. All events within the National Series be qualifying, for those that want to earn a sport for World Championships in the upcoming season.
We took note of our communities competitive nature, evident during the Tri NZ lockdown Zwift League and wanted to ensure we still delivered the opportunity for our athletes to achieve a National Title. At the end of the Suzuki National Series we will not only be crowning North Island and South Island Champions but also ULTIMATE SERIES CHAMPIONS.
The ULTIMATE SERIES CHAMPION is a truly national title, that will be awarded to the first-place male and first place female for each age group based on a points system. An athlete’s best three results from any event within the series will be calculated, using the acclaimed Thorsten Radde points system, to establish the Series Champion.
This points framework will celebrate those athletes that get out and compete in multiple events in the series, being awarded an exclusive medal.
Tri NZ would like to thank our amazing event providers that have come together to deliver this Suzuki National Series – YOU ARE AWESOME!
Graham Perks, President of Triathlon New Zealand says “the new season will be accessible, fun, and connected, and ensures we can positively respond to COVID-19 and the impact it has had on our communities.” To support this, he also noted “we are pleased to provide a grant of $1000 to each event partner in the series, to ensure they can make free entries available for members of their community”.
Finally to our AMAZING partner Suzuki that with over 12 years of support for Triathlon New Zealand, will continue to provide a Suzuki Swift to give away through the Suzuki National Series – LEGENDS! A representative will be selected from each of the Suzuki National Series events, and a final sport provided to one of our ULTIMATE SERIES CHAMPIONS.
